Understanding VRF/VRV Heat Systems
VRF and VRV heating systems are the same thing. VRF stands for “Variable Refrigerant Flow” while VRV stands for “Variable Refrigerant Volume.” While the names are different, that’s simply because different individuals copyrighted the two terms.
VRF/VRV heat systems are a type of mini-split system, meaning they heat or cool rooms individually based on where you place your indoor units.
You’ll have one outdoor unit containing one or more compressors and several indoor units installed in different zones in your home. Wiring will link the outside unit to the indoor ones and cycle refrigerant where it’s needed.
There are three main types of VRF/VRV heat systems: heat pumps, cooling-only systems, and heat recovery systems.
Heat pumps are the most popular because they provide both heating and cooling in the same unit for an affordable price. However, the indoor units must all be heating or cooling at the same time. You can’t heat and cool different rooms at the same time with a heat pump.
A cooling-only VRF/VRV system will only cool your rooms; it has no heating capability.
However, a heat recovery system can heat and cool, just like a heat pump, but with even more precision. When you use a heat recovery system, you can heat some zones while cooling others, so it is the most control you can have with a VRF/VRV heat system.
There are many benefits of VRF/VRV technology, including precise climate control and energy efficiency. If you’re considering these climate control systems for your home, give our trusted team a call. We can answer all of your questions and complete your installation with ease.
